Sam and Delores York are missionaries for the Southern Baptist International Missions Board and are serving in the island of Hispaniola, which encompasses both Haiti and the Dominician Republic. Previously they were assigned to the rural areas of central plateau of Haiti, but their work has since expanded to the entire island. They are currently stationed in Santiago, Dominician Republic. Their work includes helping Haitians in both countries. They have been missionaries in the area for over six years. They started as Missionary Associates and changed to Career Missionaries during their first stateside assignment. They previously served as Mission Service Corps Volunteers for twelve years along the Texas/Mexico border. Sam was camp manager at Cone Oasis Baptist Encampment and Delores (an R.N.) was health coordinator for clinics along the border of Mexico for eight years, then assisted Sam with the camp for the last four years.
Sam and Delores have two grown children: Jeff York, his wife Heather, son Cameron, and daughter Kiley live in Albuquerque, N.M., and Casandra (York) Lambert and husband Josh live in Dallas, TX. Anna Georges York is an adopted Haitian whom Sam and Delores have had since she was about two years old.
