Safety considerations: With Haiti in and out of the news, it is easy to see why anyone would have second thoughts about coming to Haiti for a mission trip. We try to use good judgment to keep our volunteers as safe as possible, and that is why many mission trips were called off for several months in 2004 and 2005. We are constantly monitoring the stability of the situation and if we are aware that things are unstable and potentially dangerous, we will call off groups again. The Central Plateau and the area where we live and work is usually much calmer than Port-au-Prince, where the majority of the news comes from. Unfortunately, groups must come to the airport there, but we avoid the more dangerous areas and get to our area as soon as possible. There are times when it is safer in Haiti than it is in the United States. Our advice is to go where God sends you. For us, it is Haiti and it is now. We do not have a floodlight for the future and we would not give false information, so we cannot say what will happen next week. We can only let you know that we have your best interest at heart, while at the same time, knowing how much your participation in our work can extend our efforts. If you want to know whether it is right for you to come to Haiti on a mission trip..... pray and ask the one who really knows.
