Executive Branch:
Chief of State: President (Unfilled - formerly Jean-Bertrand Aristide)
Head of Government: Prime Minister (Gerard Latortue - Interim)
Cabinet: Chosen by Prime Minister
Elections: President by popular vote with 5-year term; Prime Minister appointed by preisdent and ratified by National Assembly

The Executive Branch is currently an interim government formed after rebel uprising in early 2004.

Legislative Branch:
Bicameral National Assembly (Assemblee Nationale) consists of the Senate (27 seats elected by popular vote to serve six-year term; 1/3 elected every two years), and Chamber of Deputies (83 seats elected by popular vote to serve four-year term).

The Legislative Branch is currently crippled due to terms expiring. Reelections have not been held due to disagreements between the opposition and president Artistide. This should be remedied in 2004 due to departure of Artistide.

Judicial Branch:
Supreme Court (Cour de Cassation)

Military: Exists on paper but was disbanded by President Aristide after he returned to power following a military coup.

Police Force: 4,000-5,000 for entire country. Poorly armed and trained.
