Sam and Delores York are working in the rural areas of the Central Plateau of Haiti. This is the poorest area of Haiti and life is very different here than in the cities.

The majority of Haiti's population is rural. The rural people make up 70% of the population which consists of town and country people. They number about 5 million people who are mostly subsistence farmers. There are businesses that are run by this group, which provide products and services for the farmers and their families.
